At The Yankee Military Ball
Last night, some sight I saw down the bay
Where our war ships lay, dressed in battle grey;
They had a grand ball for all U.S. men or war,
Who where soon going to sail across the ocean,
I'll tell you what I saw:
"There were swell Marines in fighting jeans,
There were sailor boys there too,
They were all dressed in blue;
The Home Defense they look immense,
The the Volunteers came in with cheers,
When they played that Bugle Call.
When a General hollered: "Men disperse!"
Ev're fellow grabb'd a Red Cross Nurse,
and they danced all over the hall,
At the Yankee Military Ball."
I dreamed, it seemed of a year from then,
I saw all these men at a ball again;
However the war was o'er,
What a sight to see,
Ev're land in the world was represented
Here's how it looked to me:
"There were swell Marines in fighting jeans,
There were sailor boys there too,
They were all dressed in blue;
The Home Defense they look immense,
The the Volunteers came in with cheers,
When they played that Bugle Call.
When a General hollered: "Men disperse!"
Ev're fellow grabb'd a Red Cross Nurse,
and they danced all over the hall,
At the Yankee Military Ball."
