The Little Red Cross Nurse
We sing about our soldiers who have cross'd the ocean blue
And justly praise our heroes great and small.
But there is one whose purpose to the cause is just as true,
As those who fight and in the battle fall;
It's just a little woman and she wears the cap and gown.
She's helping to relieve wars awful curse,
For where the sick and wounded lay,
You will find her there each day,
The faithful little "Red Cross" nurse.
Nurse, nurse, faithful little nurse
With a red cross on your arm.
Nurse, nurse, your smile so sweet and tender,
Lends to you angelic charm;
Smiling when your patient's better,
Sympathetic when they're worse,
Spreading peace and joy and ev'ry soldier boy
Loves the little Red Cross nurse.
Her manner kind and gentle lends encouragement and cheer,
Her smile is like the sunshine after rain.
And it's a source of comfort just to know she is near,
With tender hands to soothe each ache and pain;
What would we do without her?
"Mercys' Angel" from above.
With courage she must face the dangers, too,
She's not afraid to do and dare,
For the soldiers over there,
America is proud of you.
Nurse, nurse, faithful little nurse
With a red cross on your arm.
Nurse, nurse, your smile so sweet and tender,
Lends to you angelic charm;
Smiling when your patient's better,
Sympathetic when they're worse,
Spreading peace and joy and ev'ry soldier boy
Loves the little Red Cross nurse.
